Presentation by SkunkWorks Australia at the Connecting Up Conference today provided an encouraging new option for communities wanting to introduce internet telephony without the normal high costs.

Connecting Up Conference held in Adelaide Australia this week was addressed by the Honourable Daryl Williams, Federal Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts, attracting government and industry alike from across Australia. Key theme was how people and technology work together to provide IT based communities.

Bill Oborn from Skunkworks Australia showed how Telco Perl telephony systems runnning on Linux operating system brings enormous flexibilty into community based internet telephony systems.

"Communities can set up network based computer telephony systems with IP telephones for domestic and business use with minimal effort and cost. They can even choose to add new functions themselves if they want to, thereby creating local innovation within their community" said Mr Oborn.

Connecting Up was organised by CISA (Community Information Strategies Australia Inc), and due to popular demand it is planned to run again in May 2005, see www.communit.info for more details.
